If you can only guarantee us 1 or 2 parking spaces, where do we park extra cars in the winter?
I usually recommend that people park extra cars over by the gas station and inn near the freeway intersection where you first get off the freeway. There is some parking carved out over by the Serene Lakes Lodge at the oposite end of the lake from us. I don't know if they'd mind you parking there or not. When we were up last, it looked like there was room for 3 cars in our driveway. That can change with a big storm. Worst comes to worst, park extras over by the gas station. These are just my recommendations. Don't hold me responsible if anyone gets towed, though towing is certainly not as common as over in Concord at the Brenden Theater. When it's not snowy, there's plenty of parking. When it's really snowy, the tow companies are too busy trying to clear the wrecks off I-80 to clear our development.
Do you have a garbage service?
Trash volume is a problem up there. There is only one can. Please plan food & gear to produce the least amount of trash. Place the trash can out by the road Sunday night. Use the blue Glad bags (located in the cupboard above the fridge) for recyclables and place them out by the curb Sun. night, too. Pick-up is usually before dawn on Monday. Thank you.
Do we need to bring kitchen towels, sponges, dish/dishwasher soap etc?
Bring kitchen towels. There should be sponges and stuff. I try to keep enough dish soap up there, but I haven't been up in awhile. Places to look for dish & dishwasher soap are under the kitchen sink, in the linen closet, & in the laundryroom cupboards. Worst comes to worst, you can always get small amounts of stuff at the Soda Spring Store. I don't find them much more expensive than down here.
When you say disc player, you mean CD player? There is not a DVD player, right?
Yes, I mean CD player. There is no DVD player, only a VCR.
Is there a cake pan at the cabin? My one son is having a birthday and I was going to bake him a cake.
I'm pretty sure I have some round cake pans up there. You might have to dig in the lower right cupboard next to the stove. And if you've forgotten something & I have it on the shelf, feel free to use it. PS. Bake according to the high altitude directions. The air pressure at 7,000 feet makes a big difference in cake texture.
Do you have sleds up there? Snow shovels?
Yes, there are a few sleds and shovels. Be sure to bring them both inside the cabin each and every time you come in so they don't get buried, lost, or stolen.
Can I hook up to the internet up there?
Check with your internet service provider and see if there is a dial-up connection in the area. I've used my laptop there, so it is possible.
Do you allow dogs?
Yes, as long as they are house broken and won't chew up the place. You must pick up after the dog outside, though, and there is a leash law in force.
Are there life jackets and paddles there for use with the canoe?
In the summer, yes. They're kept in the laundry room.
